Project Summary:
The purpose of Project ADELANTE is to improve the capacity, quality, and quantity of teachers at two of Colorado's school districts with high proportions of limited English proficient (LEP) students - Aurora Public Schools (APS) and the Sheridan School District (SSD). Regis University has forged a partnership with these two local education agencies and the Colorado Department of Education, to assist teachers with implementing best practices for LEP students that are consistent with state guidelines for student achievement. The goals of Project ADELANTE are:
1. To improve the academic success of LEP students in the Aurora Public Schools and the Sheridan School District.
2. To build capacity at individual schools and throughout the two school districts by training teachers and creating ongoing mechanisms for training and support.
3. To build capacity at the school district level in order to provide continuous and district-embedded opportunities for professional development, mentoring and support.
4. To build IHE capacity to deliver effective academic programs that train teachers to serve LEP students.
